Mombasa and Nairobi Tour Overview

What to see at Tsavo East & West
Cool, lush Mzima Springs tucked inside Tsavo West is a welcome surprise amidst the park’s rugged terrain. In this world of palm-shaded riverbanks, you’ll find colorful birds, fish, crocodiles, and hippos bathing in millions of gallons of freshwater.

Compared to the Tsavo Parks, Amboseli is a compact and very contained reserve but that makes it easy to find the wildlife in this pretty sanctuary. And Tsavo East is vast with a red-colored soil the elephants like to roll in, giving themselves a delightful rosy complexion.

Safari extras
Depending on your choice of accommodation you can enjoy extra activities like campfire dinners, bush breakfasts, spa, views of the Galana river with its elephants, hippos, and crocodiles, waterhole views of wildlife, traditional dancers, guided walks, evening bonfires, interconnecting rooms and suites, kid clubs, and night game drives.

Mombasa and Nairobi Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Meals: Lunch & Dinner

6:00 Your Africa Kenya Safaris driver/guide will pick you up early to start your four-day journey in a private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep. You’ll head to Mombasa via the Likoni Channel ferry and travel down the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway as the African sun breaks upon the land.

You’ll have opportunities for rest stops along the way and the chance to get refreshments.

We should arrive at Tsavo West in time for lunch. Refresh at your accommodation and then get ready for an afternoon of game drives. You’ll be looking for the big game and by late afternoon we’ll head for the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, home to over 80 of the unusual, shy creatures. And we just may spot a few.

As the sun begins to set we’ll make our way back to our safari lodge or tented camp for a relaxing dinner and rest.
Day 2
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

We’ll be up with the birds… or maybe even before to catch the sunrise and the dawning light upon the park’s rolling hills. This is a quiet, peaceful time to explore the natural world.

We’ll head over to Mzima Springs and leave our 4 x 4 to walk along the cool shaded banks, looking for hippos and crocodiles, along with other wildlife attracted to the clear waters here.

Then we’ll enjoy a final game drive through the park as we exit and journey to Amboseli.

You’ll soon spot towering Mt. Kilimanjaro in the distance, a sign that the park can’t be far off.

The afternoon will usher in relaxed game drives and we should find plenty of free-ranging elephants, with the great mountain serving as a perfect backdrop.

Amboseli is also the site of a nearby Maasai village. You can take an optional cultural tour to meet these indigenous people and learn about their lifestyles. Just ask your guide.

Toward late afternoon, the clouds obscuring Kilimanjaro’s peak may dissipate, revealing a snow-capped summit, so get your camera ready.

We’ll head to our Amboseli accommodation for dinner and relaxation.
Day 3
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

We’ll be up early, not only to catch the sunrise but possibly Kili’s snow-capped peak, weather permitting. Time to hit the trail and see who we can spot before heading back for breakfast.

We’ll grace the park with one more game drive as we exit, now heading for Tsavo East. We should arrive at the park in time for an afternoon safari over its expansive territory, looking for large and small game.

As the sun begins to set and the park cools down we’ll take an easy drive to our Tsavo East accommodation for a relaxing dinner.
Day 4
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Our last day on safari so we don’t want to miss any chance to spot a lion or leopard. We’ll be up and exploring the park, especially its famous watering holes like Mudanda Rock, the Aruba Dam, or the Galana River. The park’s thirsty wildlife gather at these spots for their refreshing waters in this otherwise dry terrain.

We’ll be looking for the Tsavo lions, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, gazelle, and many others. Lunch will be served in an open-air restaurant overlooking the great expanse of the park.

Then it’s time to head back to the coast. You’ll be bringing lots of photos and memories with you from your four days on safari. We hope you had an incredible adventure. Thank you for your patronage and your trust in Africa Kenya Safaris.
