Lake Nakuru National Park
With its lions, flamingoes, rhinos, and Rothschild’s giraffes, Lake Nakuru is a stunning microcosm of the whole of Africa. Besides the colorful variety of wildlife, you’ll see tall, rocky escarpments, waterfalls, and verdant acacia forests. It’s hard to believe all this natural drama is so close to the city.
Check out the names of the park’s favorite animal-spotting viewpoints – Baboon Cliff, Lion Hill, and Out of Africa. True to the viewpoints’ names you’ll spot monkeys, baboons – some 56 species of mammals, and over 450 types of birdlife.
We’ll visit the local hippos, pelicans, kingfishers, and sometimes if the conditions are right, brilliant pink flamingoes who feed on the algae blooms in the deep blue alkaline water.
Seeing rhinos anywhere is a special treat and you’ve come to the best spot in Kenya to look upon these imposing but endangered creatures. We’ll visit the park’s rhino sanctuary where you’ll get views of the dozens of black and white rhinos thriving in this protected zone.
Care for a walk in the woods? A visit to Nakuru’s thick acacia forest may reward you with views of impala, waterbuck, and if you are really lucky – a large python hanging from above!
After all that wildlife viewing it’s time for lunch. We’ll pause to enjoy a buffet at one of the park’s lodges.
Lake Naivasha
Ever been to two Rift Valley lakes in one day? You can compare the vistas of these different high-altitude lakes. Lake Naivasha is freshwater, so the look here is a bit different, as is the birdlife. But like Lake Nakuru, Naivasha is blessed with a pleasing variety of landscapes – acacia forest, nearby flower farms, extinct volcanoes, and even waterfalls.
Hop into our boat for a lazy sailing safari across the lake as we drift past bathing hippos and look for zebra, giraffe, and antelope along the nearby shore. What a peaceful way to digest your lunch while soaking up the delights of this graceful park.
As your boat glides along you’re sure to spot some of Naivasha’s dense avian life – eagles, weavers, buzzards, kingfishers, and many more. But don’t miss the nearby forest which holds plenty of zebra and giraffe surprises.
